Invites applications and Nominations for the
2008 National Teaching Artists Grants
The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival invites theatre faculty from colleges and universities to apply for professional development grants of up to $2000. Faculty and Administrators are also invited to nominate outstanding colleagues for these National Teaching Artist Grants.
Faculty in all theatre disciplines are encouraged to apply:
Arts Administration
Design
Directing
Dramatic Criticism and Theory
Dramaturgy
Production
Performance
Performance Studies
Playwriting
Theatre History
The grants are to be used to underwrite tuition, travel, meals, or costs associated with an extended professional residency in the applicants’ area of discipline. These grants can be applied to the KCACTF Playwriting or Design Intensive, The O’Neill National Critics Institute, The Actors Center Teacher Development Workshop, USITT Symposia, ATHE Seminars, Shakespeare & Company Training Intensives, Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre Summer Classes, cross-disciplinary projects, research time at the Stratford Festival Archives, etc.
We will award up to seven National Teaching Artist Grants and acknowledge the recipients in a full page ad in American Theatre Magazine.
We will award grants based on:
1-The candidates’ achievements as teaching artists
2-The candidates’ record of contribution to Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Programming.
At least two of the grants will recognize early career achievement as a teaching artist.
Deadlines and Schedule:
October 1, 2008 Regional Executive Committees’ Nominations due honoring individuals for regional achievement.
October 15, 2008 “Intent to Apply” notification to the Kennedy Center National Office due for all applicants.
October 15, 2008 All Nominations by colleague faculty or administrators due.
November 15, 2008 Application/submission deadline for all applicants and nominees.
January 15, 2009 Grant Award notification
September 1, 2009 Grant funds must be distributed by this date.
To apply, please submit the following:
1- A letter of motivation, including a description of the intended professional development opportunity.
2- A CV
3- A concise representation of the creative or scholarly work appropriate for your discipline (sample creative or scholarly writing, portfolio of 10-15 images of your design work, production photos and notes, etc. )
4- All of the above- letter, CV, renderings, sketches, production photos, other creative imagery, writing samples -must be converted to and submitted as PDFs.

A panel consisting of current and past members of the KCACTF National Committee and a non-academic professional will make the grant selections.
Restrictions:
Previous recipients of the National Teaching Artist Grant, National Faculty Design Fellowship, O’Neill Critics Institute Faculty Fellowship or Actors Center Teacher Development Workshop Fellowship are not eligible to be considered for these 2008 Grants.
Current or immediate-past KCACTF Regional Chairs, National Playwriting Program Chairs or Design & Technologies Chairs are not eligible for these grants.
2007 National Teaching Artist Grants applicants and nominees are welcome to re-apply.
