Faculty Opportunities,  Awards Introduction & Welcome

A host of opportunities are available for faculty members of schools who participate in our region and they are listed below (participation in a year is defined as having at least one entry - associate or participating - from your school that year, or from active work as respondents). During Festival XXIV, the Kennedy Center/American College Theater Festival inaugurated a program of professional development for faculty members from participating colleges and universities. The mission of this new program is to identify, acknowledge and encourage outstanding teachers in university and college theater programs. Opportunities will change from year to year, with programs in development for faculty designers, directors, actors and playwrights. Faculty candidates are competitively selected.

Region VII is proud to have past chair of our region Professor Rebecca Hilliker of the University of Wyoming serving this year as our regional faculty awards and development officer. Rebecca will help to solicit and review applications for faculty awards and will play a major role in making recommendations to the regional executive governing board for final approval.     - Teacher Development Workshop dates for Summer 04 will be June 7-18.

    • Each region may nominate one teacher of acting who exemplifies the educational mission of KCACTF.  Substantial experience as a professional actor is desirable.  Final selection will be made by the National Committee.  Grant includes travel and lodging, as well as a full tuition waiver to attend the program for eleven days in June, 2004.

    2007 National Teaching Artist Grants

  • The > Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival invites theatre faculty from participating colleges and > universities to apply for professional development grants of up to $2000. F > aculty are also invited to nominate outstanding colleagues for these > National Teaching Artist Grants.

    >> Faculty colleagues in all theatre disciplines are encouraged to apply:

    Arts Administration

    Design

    Directing

    Dramatic Criticism and Theory

    Dramaturgy

    Production

    Performance

    Performance Studies

    Playwriting

    Theatre History

    The grants are to be used to underwrite or offset tuition, travel, meals, > or costs associated with an extended professional residency in the > applicants’ area of discipline. For example, you can apply these grants to the KCACTF Summer Playwriting or Design Intensives, The O’Neill > National Critics Institute, The Actors Center Teacher Development > Workshop, USITT Symposia, ATHE Seminars, Shakespeare & Company Training > Intensives, VASTA Workshops, Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre Summer > Classes, cross-disciplinary projects, etc.

    We will award up to seven National Teaching Artist Grants and acknowledge the recipients in a full page ad in American Theatre Magazine.

    We award grants based on:

    1)    The candidates’ achievement as a teaching artist

    2)    The candidates’ record of contribution to Kennedy Center American > College Theater Festival Programming.

    > At least two of the grants will recognize early career achievement as a teaching artist.

    Intent to Apply notification: Friday, November 9, 2007

    Nomination Deadline: Friday, November 9, 2007

    Application > Deadline: Friday, December 7, 2007

    Award > Notification: Monday, March 3, 2008

    Grant funds must be distributed by September 1, 2008

    ·       A concise representation of the creative or scholarly work appropriate for your discipline > (sample creative or scholarly writing, portfolio of 6 to 8 images of your > design work, production photos and notes, etc.) You may refer > the selection committee to online portfolios or personal websites.

    • The final candidate pool will also include individuals nominated by each of > the eight regional executive committees as distinguished teaching artists > in their field, based on regional criteria and procedure, at the regional selection meetings in early December.

      A panel consisting of current and past members of the KCACTF National Executive Committee and non-academic professionals will make the final selections.

      Current or immediate-past KCACTF Regional Chairs, National Playwriting Program Chairs and > Design & Technologies Chairs are not eligible for these grants.
