ATTENTION STUDENT DIRECTORS

Region VII has two opportunities for student directors to showcase their work at our Regional Festival

1) The William Inge Theatre Festival Scholarship Scene Auditions
And
2) The SSD&C 10 Minute Play Directing Fellowship

Overview

Region VII is pleased to announce the continuation of the William Inge Theatre Festival Scholarship Scene Auditions at the Region VII KCACTF Festival .  The Inge Scholarship Auditions provide a nice compliment to our estabished SSD&C (Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers) 10 Minute Play Directing Competition. There will be a winner selected from each category.  The winning Inge Director and cast will receive a trip to perform their scene at the Inge Festival in Independence, Kansas.  The SSD&C 10 Minute Play Directing winner will attend the National Festival in Washington D.C.  SSD&C will sponsor attendance at the national festival for the selected students, along with a one-year Associate Membership to the SSD&C.

In Washington, each of the eight regional SSD&C winners will attend workshops and direct a reading of one of the nationally selected ten-minute plays.  In addition, one of the eight students will receive a $1,000.00 scholarship to attend the Collaborative Process Summer Intensive held in Washington (usually late June) with Ming Cho Lee.

WILLIAM INGE THEATRE FESTIVAL SCHOLARSHIP SCENE AUDITIONS

Co-Sponsored by the Northwest Drama Conference

The William Inge Theatre Festival is proud to continue its scholarship audition program in Region VII, funded by the William Inge Festival Foundation, in conjunction with the Northwest Drama Conference and Region VII.  The purpose of the scholarship program is to encourage and celebrate the study and performance of the plays of William Inge, as well as those of past recipients of the William Inge Theatre Festival Award for Distinguished Achievement in the American Theatre, given each year to a living playwright. This year’s honoree is Christopher Durang.

The Inge Festival Scholarship Scene Auditions will be held in Laramie Wyoming, February 18-22, 2008 at the Northwest Drama Conference and Regional Festival of KCACTF Region VII.

The director and cast members of the first place scene will be awarded a stipend of up to $1000 to pay for their mileage to attend the Annual William Inge Theatre Festival in Independence, Kansas, They will receive tickets and passes to all events including VIP meals (check out past Festivals at the Inge Centerwebsite). They will receive hospitality housing, meals and VIP Status while in attendance at the Inge Festival in April.  They will also perform their award-winning scene as a part of the William Inge Theatre Festival hosted by Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas.

In case the winning scene is unable to attend the Festival, a first alternate scene will be chosen.  The winning scene will still receive the scholarship, but the travel stipend will go to whichever scene attends and performs at the Inge Festival.

REGION VII

SSD&C 10 MINUTE PLAY DIRECTING FELLOW

An Overview of the Award

One student director (either graduate or undergraduate) from each of the eight regions will be invited to participate in the National KCACTF Festival at the Kennedy Center each April.  These student directors will each be assigned one of the eight student-written ten-minute plays which were selected as the regional winners in that program.  Each student director will spend the week directing a READING of one of these ten-minute plays, including auditioning and casting from a pool of National Irene Ryan Scholarship finalists and partners, and working closely with the student playwright of their script, as well as being supervised by a faculty directing mentor.  All of these eight ten-minute plays will be presented in public readings, and this performance will serve, in part, as one of the National KCACTF performances at the Kennedy Center.  The student directing fellows will also participate in workshops, and be able to attend other performances during the National Festival.

This award includes travel, lodging and per diem expenses, as well as attendance at KCACTF National Festival workshops and performances.

Selection Process for the Region VII Student Director Fellow

To be selected as the Region VII Student Director Fellow, student directors must be NOMINATED by a respondent who attended the student director’s production at their home college, or by a home college faculty member who served as a supervisor for the student director on a production.  The production must be entered as an associate or participating production. After this nomination, the students must submit the following materials in order to serve as director for one of the ten-minute plays performed at our regional festival. One of the six student directors from our region will then be chosen to represent Region VII at the national festival. The six selected students will be interviewed and their work observed at rehearsals while attending the regional festival. The regional representative will be chosen by a group of faculty directing mentors in conjunction with the Region 7 Directing Coordinator.
