National Playwriting Program Awards

Please include a separate cover page with name of the author, name of the plan and name of the school. With the script only the name of the play should be included. The cover pages will be removed when they are sent out to the reader so that they are read blindly.

LORRAINE HANSBERRY AWARD

Best original play written by student(s) of African heritage on or about African culture here in America or abroad.

Eligibility Requirements

Definition
ü        EITHER Participating or Associate ü        $200 or $250 entry fee by participating school; 1 or 2 KCACTF respondent/s
ü        Could be a translation, collaboration, adaptation, company written by two or more persons. ü         
ü        Could be based on factual material  
ü        Full-length play ü        A major work, or two or more short thematic works, that make an event of 90 minutes or longer.
ü        One-Act or Short Play ü        Any length; 15+ pages.
ü        3 copies of script to Kennedy Center ü        An entry form must be attached to each copy of the script.
ü        150-word synopsis ü        Included as cover page with entry forms/scripts to Kennedy Center.
ü        Additional copy of script sent to Regional

ü        Undergraduate enrolled in 6 semester hours/quarter equivalent; graduate enrolled in 3 semester hours/quarter equivalent; continuing part-time student enrolled in a regular degree program.
ü        Eligible for other playwriting awards ü        Eligible for other KCACTF Playwriting awards.  Separate entry forms MUST be submitted for each award.
ü        Work is selected by appointed KCACTF committee  

ü        Work is eligible for two years after graduation.  It is expected that the work on a new play will have begun during the period the student is enrolled in school.

LATINO PLAYWRITING AWARD

Best original play written by student(s) of Latino heritage.

* NOTE: Playwright cannot win the David Mark Cohen more than once.  The play must NOT have had a professional production.

Best STUDENT original SHORT PLAY seen by the National Selection Team at a Regional Festival.

ü        One-Act or Short Play ü        Any length; 15+ pages.  A play of one act up to 60 minutes in length with no intermission.
ü        3 copies of script to Kennedy Center. ü        An entry form must be attached to each copy of the script.
ü        150-word synopsis ü        Included as cover page with entry forms/scripts to Kennedy Center.
