KCACTF Ten-Minute Play Festival

Deadline: Scripts must be received postmarked by Nov. 1st

Students are invited to submit a ten-minute play for the Ten-Minute Play Festival.  (Up to two separate submissions may be allowed)   These plays are read by judges, from outside the region, who select a short list of six  plays to be invited to the Regional VII KCACTF Festival for a staged reading - although traditionally in Region VII we  encourage  a  minimal bare bones staged production.   Playwrights will be paired with a student director and faculty mentor (see student director fellowship).

  1. This award is based on a reading of your script.  You can enter a ten-minute play festival as an associate production to obtain Irene Ryan Nominees, but the plays will not be considered for the festival at conference.  They must be submitted as scripts as per the regulations.
  2. Plays are limited to 10 minutes and 10 pages in length (12 pt. Font).
  3. Your entry should include the following:
    1. A cover letter from a faculty member of your department confirming your status as a student
    2. A blind title page secured to three of the scripts with only the title of the play.
    3. An additional fourth copy of the script with a  title page with the playwright’s information (Name, address, telephone number, school and email).
    4. Ten Minute Play Example
    5. See Gary Garrison’s A Brief Note on Ten-Minute Plays
  4. Send all four copies of your completed script.
  5. To be eligible the student’s school must have entered any production as a participating or associate level production during the current festival year OR in turn you may  submit a $20 fee per Ten-Minute play script. Fee is payable to KCACTF Region VII.
  6. No more than two entries per playwright will be accepted.
  7. All playwrights must be in attendance at the regional festival.
  8. Six ten-minute plays will be chosen to be read at the regional festival and given staged readings or simple stagings with Faculty and Graduate Student as directors and Irene Ryan Candidates as actors.
  9. The reading by judges who make the final, or “winning,” choice, takes place in residence at the regional festival to accommodate any last minute rewrites.
  10. Four of the eight Regional Ten-Minute Play Award winners are invited to the National KCACTF every year. Each of the eight regional winners of the Ten-Minute Play Award will be eligible for the Dadıs Garage/Atlanta Fellowship.
  11. We will also select a regional winner that will receive the new regional John Jory 10 Minute Play Award which includes $100 and a one year membership to the Dramatists Guild.
  12. The award at both the regional and national festival is based on a reading of the script’s dramatic merits - not upon the festival performance of the text.

DEADLINE:  All scripts must be received by Nov. 1st .
